Free Backgrounds: Mount Vernon Distillery and Gristmill

   The Distillery and Gristmill for Mount Vernon is located a few miles from the Mount Vernon estate along the southern part of Route 235.

   The Mount Vernon estate, home to Martha and George Washington, is located in Fairfax County Virginia on the Potomac River, about 8 miles below the southern edge of the Washington DC beltway.

   The Mount Vernon Distillery and Gristmill, originally built in the 18th century and now a current restoration project, offers visitors the experience to tour an authentically restored water-powered 18th-century mill. Costumed millers demonstrate its workings; likewise for the distillery. Evidence collected by archaeologists is being used to reconstruct the distillery building.
